Project Supervisor
As Director and formerly Assistant Director of the Institute of Cornish Studies, I have been associated with several HLF projects at the University of Exeter. My research interests include oral history, cultural memory, and the political and religious history of Cornwall since the nineteenth century.
I was brought up in the Clay Country of Mid Cornwall and enjoy playing the accordion along with other musical instruments.
Digital & Research Mentor
As the digital and research mentor, it’s up to me to make sure all our excellent research is being transformed into digital magic. I am also a postgraduate student of French & British historic interiors whilst working as a digital curator for the National Trust.
You may see me hanging off boats, running the coastal path and jumping in that cold, Cornish sea… all in the name of bringing history to life!
Maritime History Research Mentor
I have recently joined the department at Streatham from the University of Exeter’s campus at Penryn in Cornwall. Broadly, my research is interdisciplinary, concerned with early modern maritime literature and culture (maritime humanities), and British-Islamic cross-cultural contact.
I live in Penzance, Cornwall, and enjoy my evenings when I can walk my dogs along Marazion beach.
Volunteering Coordinator
I am the Volunteering Coordinator and am responsible for coordinating and promoting the work of student volunteers, as well as establishing collaborative working relations.
I am also a dedicated musician, playing several woodwind and brass instruments! I currently play Trombone for Penzance Silver Band and over the years have performed at the Music for Youth Proms with the Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra.
◊ Becky said her goodbyes to the project in March 2020 for a new fantastic position with Cornwall’s Council.
Student Coordinator
As Student Coordinator I reach out to, and collaborate with fellow students. As a soon-to-be graduate I am using the skills that I have honed through my degree to organise and edit a volunteer led research book.
Having spent the last three years in the beautiful town of Falmouth, you’ll find me falling off a surfboard, out of puff on a seaside run or, most likely, enjoying hot chocolate and cake!
